Week 2

Photographer of the Week: James Natchwey is
known for his photos of war, conflict, and critical issues around the world. He started his work in New Mexico and then moved to New York where his career took off. It really took off after his first over seas shoot where he went to Northern Ireland in 1981 during the IRA hunger strike.  He has gone all over the world; some of the places he has been are South Africa, Rwanda, Russia, Israel, and Afghanistan. While working in Iraq, James was in a Humvee when insurgents attacked and a grenade was thrown in the vehicle. He was hurt but was able to recover from it. James captured pictures during the tsunami in Southeast Asian. Another thing that James captured was the attack on the Trade Center on 9/11.James has received many awards such as Common Wealth Award, Martin Luther King Award, Robert Capa Gold Medal (5 times), the World Press Photo Award (2 times), Magazine Photographer of the Year (7 times), and many othersOne of the most recent things that has happened to James Nachtwey was that he was grazed by a bullet on his leg in Thailand while photographing a political protest.
The thing that stands out about his pictures are that they dont show to beauty of the world but they show the heartache and things that people don't want to see but does them in a beautiful way. He also brings light to things to get awareness to certain issues.

Feature Photos: The two topics that are doable for me form the list of 22 Ways to Find a Feature in the book are Study the Students and Peruse Events Calendars. The first one sounds doable and interesting because may people know about beauty schools or other vocational schools but never really sees what goes on in them. For Peruse Events Calendars is interesting because you can get may different kind of shots because there will be a wide variety of people that go to certain events.
Plan for Study the Students: I have a friend that teaches at Phagan's Beauty school. I can ask her when they have classes and when it would be okay for me to come in and take pictures of the students and clients.
Plan for Peruse Event Calendars: Facebook always has a list of events that are coming up in the area. I found that there is a show/concert at The Dam on Friday the 7th. I plan on going to it and taking pictures of the artist who is from Portland and the people that will be joining it. I will also be doing The Great Pumpkin Run on Sunday the 9th. I can come before the event to talk to the people that are putting the run on, people during, and after the run. Also at the end of the month there is going to be Blocktoberfest that happens for two days in downtown Corvallis. Not only can I get good normal pictures but maybe I can take some silly pictures of people who might be drunk or even just having a good time.

Photos for This Week: The topic this week was campus/students. We had to take an overall, medium, and close up of one subject.

This is the yoga class that meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 9am at LBCC. The class is taught by Subbappa Riberio. They were warming up at the beginning of class and were going to work on their posture.

Alex Taylor, Shyla Stone, and Rachel Birken are all working on their yoga posses that help with their posture.

Subbappa Riberio, the instructor is showing the class the next posses that he wants them to try with one of his students.
